Bed poverty means a child does not have a bed of their own. They may sleep on a floor, sofa, or makeshift bedding. It’s not neglect — it’s families falling short on the basics by a small but critical margin.

Karuna funds beds through profit generated by property development. We don’t deliver beds ourselves — we fund specialist delivery partners who already work with schools and families.

Beds are delivered by experienced UK charities with established safeguarding, logistics, and reporting processes. Schools act as the referral layer; partners handle assessment, delivery, and follow-up.

Because sleep underpins everything else. A bed provides safety, rest, dignity, and stability — often for 8–10 years — and teachers consistently report improvements in attendance, focus, and wellbeing once a child is sleeping properly.

A fully delivered bed bundle (bed frame, mattress, bedding, delivery, safeguarding and admin) costs around £150.
